Tour Sofia and Boyana

9.30 or 10.00 – Starting point - Saint Alexander Nevski Cathedral, connected to both medieval history of Bulgaria and restoration of Bulgarian State in late 19th century, followed by Early Christian Basilica of saint Sofia, which has given the nowadays name of the city and a row of buildings constructed at the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th century and connected to the period when Sofia was elected to be the capital of Bulgaria. After that like in a time machine the guests are moved into the unique atmosphere of Roman Serdica hidden in the very center of the modern city. The walk ends up on Sveta Nedelya Square where operating temples of the four most widespread religions coexist peacefully.

12.30 – 14.00 – Lunch in Bulgarian folk restaurant with traditional dishes.

14.00 – 17.30 – Visit to Boyana Church and National Historic Museum.
SAINT NICOLAS BOYANA CHURCH
A mural like a fortress and a park – this fragrant place in the skirts of Vitosha Mountain is the native place of European Renaissance. But if one expects to see something like Sistine Chapel or a similarity of any other Renaissance masterpiece, he will be completely disappointed in his expectations. The small church doesn’t show at all from the outside that it has preserved such wonderful frescos made in 1259, but with majestic dignity requires a bow when one enters through low arched door. And inside, oh! Inside is the word of Boyana master with its beauty, his faith and hopeless love. Boyana Church is included in UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the most remarkable monuments of European medieval culture.
